The Top Tip

‘Absolutely incomprehensible’

A shooter opened fire at a Catholic school in Minnesota, killing two children and injuring 17.

  • What happened: The incident occurred during a mass service at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. The shooter was outside the church and fired through the windows, killing an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

  • More details: Fourteen of the 17 wounded were children. "The sheer cruelty and cowardice of firing into a church full of children is absolutely incomprehensible," Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said. President Donald Trump ordered flags to be flown at half-staff through this weekend.

  • The suspect: Officials identified the suspect as a transgender woman in her 20s. The shooter uploaded a YouTube manifesto before carrying out the attack. Antisemitic rhetoric and a call to kill the president were written on the weapons used. Her mother had worked at the school before retiring several years ago. The FBI said the shooting will be investigated as domestic terrorism and a potential hate crime.
