The Top Tip

Some spread

Measles cases have hit a 33-year national high, according to the CDC.

  • The numbers: Confirmed U.S. cases are almost at 1.3K so far in 2025. That is the highest total since 1992. Infections have been reported in 39 states with 27 confirmed outbreaks.

  • Key numbers: Over 90% of cases involve unvaccinated or unknown status patients. Kids 19 and younger account for 65% of cases. Measles has been considered "eliminated" since 2000, but herd immunity levels have slipped below the 95% threshold.

  • Big picture: The disease is not consistently spreading due to vaccinations, but public health officials are still alarmed about regressing vaccination rates. Many are pushing HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. -- a vaccine skeptic -- to launch a pro-vaccine campaign before schools open next month.
