We have some news…

You asked, and we listened!

On January 4 we asked what you'd love to see more of if Tip News branched out. And boy, did you answer:

Health took the crown. By a landslide.

Based on the stories that get clicked most, this wasn’t entirely surprising.

Yet, the sheer enthusiasm for more health coverage caught us off guard—in the best way possible.

Now there are many ways to cover health related topics. You can cover the medical industry. BIG PHARMA. Fitness trends. Diets. Or whatever nonsense is being spouted on Instagram.

But we firmly believe that the current state of medicine has largely failed to proactively address many of the simple ways we can all live healthier lives.

And that is the focus of our new newsletter, Optimize Me, which we’re launching next week.

We're diving into the straightforward, sometimes overlooked ways to boost your health and happiness.

💪 Optimize Me will focus on news from the 6 core tenets of health and wellness that will help you live a better, healthier, and potentially longer, life:

1) Fitness 🚴‍♂️

2) Nutrition 🥦

3) Appearance 💇

4) Sleep 🛌

5) Mind 🧠

6) Health Tech 🦾

The past few years have sparked a massive interest in holistic health and well-being. But let's face it, finding reliable, actionable advice is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Optimize Me cuts through the clutter, delivering fresh health and wellness insights and research straight to you, up to three times a week, in a friendly, easy-to-digest format.

Why “up to?”

Well, quality journalism and in-depth research aren't free. Tip News thrives thanks to our advertisers and sponsors, many from the health and wellness world (shoutout to Brodo, LMNT!).

All subscribers who opt in will get a free weekly dose of Optimize Me, featuring a curated roundup of must-know health news, all ad-supported.

But we're aiming higher. We don't want to lean too heavily on ads. Our mission? To offer in-depth analysis on the latest fitness trends and health hacks, separating fact from influencer fluff.

Doing so takes time. So Optimize Me will have a premium membership as well.

Premium subscribers will get a weekly deep dive into a hot button topic in health and wellness (example: What’s the research behind cold plunges?, What the data says about drinking red wine). If any of you subscribe to Parent Data by Emily Oster, you may get a sense for how we’ll tackle important health questions. Premium subscribers also get a second weekly roundup, and access to our archive of consensus research into important health topics.

We’ve been testing the newsletter with a small group of our most active subscribers, and the feedback has been incredible.

Subscribe for free here so you can get access when we launch next week:

Top Tips

1) Great Lakes headache

President Joe Biden faces a potentially election-swinging challenge in a critical swing state.

  • The issue: Over 100K "uncommitted" votes were cast in Michigan's Democratic primary on Tuesday night after Biden critics called for a protest vote due to his support of Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza.

  • The numbers: Michigan has large numbers of Arab American and Muslim voters, and the war is a major issue for Biden among them. The uncommitted ballot option beat Biden by 16 points in the city of Dearborn, where the groups are well represented.

  • Big picture: Biden still has eight months, and his campaign has acknowledged the pushback. But Trump has led the president in most early Michigan general election polls and if he can flip the state, his path to an Electoral College victory opens considerably.

2) Ring of fire

A massive wildfire tore through the Texas Panhandle for a third day with no sign of letting up.

  • Historic blaze: The Smokehouse Creek Fire is now the second-largest in state history, burning about 150 football fields worth of land per minute while being only 3% contained as of last night. The blaze also extends into a small part of Oklahoma.

  • The impact: Officials said they could not fully assess the damage, but cattle and thousands of structures were likely destroyed. There was one confirmed death; 60 counties received disaster declarations.

  • Big picture: There is hope cooler temperatures and rain could help slow the blaze today, but more fire-friendly conditions are expected this weekend. It will likely become the biggest in state history with well over 1M acres burned.

3) Supreme sequel

Donald Trump is headed back to the highest court in the land.

  • What happened: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear Trump's claim of presidential immunity in his federal election interference case. Oral arguments will be April 22 with a decision expected by the end of June. The court still needs to rule on Trump's appeal of his Colorado ballot ban on 14th Amendment grounds.

  • The argument: Trump's attorneys say a former president cannot face criminal prosecution for conduct involving official acts while in office. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Circuit Court previously rejected Trump's claim after the high court declined Special Counsel Jack Smith's request to hear the issue last year.

  • Split decision: Trump successfully got the court to hear his appeal, but the justices did not freeze his trial while he exhausted all lower court appeals. That means a trial could still happen before the election if Trump loses the appeal.
